Life, Joy and Peace (Solo Bb/C)
Based on the wonderful old gospel song, “‘Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus” by Louisa M.R. Snead (1850-1917) and William James Kirkpatrick (1838-1921), this solo with instrumental ensemble accompaniment features one verse and two choruses from the song.
After a brief introduction based on intervals from the song, the soloist plays an original melody by the composer prior to a light and energetic rendition of the first chorus. The verse appears in a more sustained style by the soloist, accompanied by a smooth, chorale-like background.
The second chorus is played by the soloist while the opening original theme is juxtaposed underneath. The introduction is reintroduced prior to an ascending finale by the soloist. -

‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
An accompanied flute solo begins with a jaunty piano motive and then joined in with the flute in a simplistic thematic statement The chorus changes meter and presents itself in a whole different flavor, one of strength and determination. The next section returns to the manner of the first, only this time the soloist provides an obbligato with much more flourish. The coda section is more plaintive and then settles into a gentle repose.

Tis So Sweet To Trust
A quartet for 2 flutes and 2 clarinets with opt. parts for oboe, B. clar., bassoon and Alto sax. After a brief introduction the flutes carry the melodic material and then shifting the chorus to the clarinets. A modulation shifts the attention to the clarinet melody with punctuation remarks in the other instruments. Further transition moves to another modulation where thematic motifs are passed around in a fughetta fashion where it then becomes more choral in nature ending in a solemn statement.

Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus
A solo for flute with piano accompaniment. After a brief introduction the flute presents the theme in traditional fashion. A first variation takes the melody in a duple fashion displaying the melody on the beat. The second variation does much the same only using triplets for the rhythmic movement. The Coda section is slower and more expressive leading up to a solid conclusion.
