O Holy Night
Published with parts for violin, violin/viola and cello plus piano. The piece begins with a rather traditional solo and then joined by an imitative second part. The piece continues in block harmonies and then breaks into contrapuntal movement. With a modulation, the parts become more ornamented. A break is then created with the piano carrying the melodic material and then joined with the trio parts moving together producing solid harmonies. Then, in traditional fashion the piece concludes in a manner of repose.

O Holy Night
A brass sextet which has a gentle motion to it (much like a barcarolle) presents the melody in the middle voices adding more harmonic richness as it proceeds until the upper voices take over the bulk of the thematic material- all the while continuing with the pulsing patterns in the accompaniment. The next section is carried by the inner voices once again while the out voices added tension and impact. The middle section is slower and more plaintive fashion which has supportive material that weaves in and out until it comes to a climatic point. It gradually retreats until it reaches a sense of calm and solitude. (Opt trp for horn and BHTC for Trm 2)

O Holy Night
This Christmas arrangement sounds fresh and warm partly because it is crafted in 4/4 meter rather than the trad. triple meter. The cadenza may be omitted without affecting the integrity and beauty of the piece.

O Holy Night
For trumpet and piano, the melodic material is constantly being embellished from florid to impetuous – ever changing in a rhapsodic form.
