This violin solo begins with a simply stated introduction in the piano with the solo line presented verbatim, the original tune. The middle section melody is in the piano with the soloist giving a lilting countermelody making for a pleasing interaction of the two parts. The third section reverts back to the structure of the opening concluding with richer harmonies and settling with a solid statement in the solo while support with a motivic statement in the piano.

I Wonder As I Wander
This violin solo starts out with piano motive that will be used throughout the piece and is then joined with the solo using the last phrase of the song. The next section uses the tune pretty much in its original form with the piano adding various arpeggios and thematic motives. The piano then presents a flowing version of the song while the soloist adds a idiomatic obbligato… then the final section has the soloist presenting the melody while the piano punctuates an underlying accompaniment. The coda section is much like the introduction and the soloist gives one final thematic motive.

This is a violin solo that begins in a flowing manner and quickly accelerates to a more technical rendition of the tune creating a delightful atmosphere of this grand old hymn. It is effervescent and uplifting.

What Child Is This
A violin solo with piano accompaniment. The pieces starts out with piano only and allows the entrance of the solo violin and a rather straight forward rendition of this beloved song. After a brief transition the solo is modified with a constant modified and moving line while being supported by a single voice counterpoint in the left hand of the piano. The chorus is then a bit more staid and the accompaniment more chordal. Another brief piano interlude is stated with melodic material and the piece becomes more fragmented and motivic with a gentle settling to the end.

Scored for various mallet instruments as well as general percussion. The piece begins with tutti percusion overlayed with vocal narrations giving a dramatic effect. The piece then explodes with a mallet ostinato and then joined with tutti mallets on the theme. Next, after a ritardando, the mallets present a calm thematic rendition supported by gentle effects of the other percussion. It builds to a strong climax and the ostinato returns with the theme to follow. The final section uses imitative devices with the general percussion becoming more active. Until it all leads up to a stirring conclusion.

Jacob’s Dream
A percussion quintet that is accessible for younger players uses several basic instruments. The original melody is present by the bells throughout with various percussive colors by the other instruments. The middle section is a rhythmic break up acting as a contrast to the earlier section. The final section goes back to the design of the first section with more accompanying activity in the non-tonal instruments. The coda section crescendos to an exciting conclusion.

It is a straightforward medley using “Rejoice In The Lord Always” and “This Is My Commandment.” The flavor is driving with the melodic material presented in the mallet instruments while punctuated with the various rhythm instruments involved.
