Men Of Faith
This Concert March was inspired by the Eleventh Chapter of Hebrews that says “By faith…” these great men (and women) of the Bible were able to accomplish all that God had for them to do. This work features a snare drum solo and is scored for various sections of the band to play the melody at one time or another. It begins in the concert key of Eb and then changes to Ab and ends in F. It is very playable with some repetitious syncopated rhythms and a simple melody that will help build your faith.

David And Goliath
A programmatic piece those young bands will enjoy. The percussion section opens this work with a ringing introduction that gives way to the low brass and woodwinds and eventually the rest of the band. The opening slow section builds with intensity and finally pauses before the percussion section begins the Allegro tempo which drives to a rousing climax. The piece then quickly relaxes just before a short, fast ending. A descriptive piece where you can feel the battle engaged; the stone making its mark; and David is the victor!

Power In The Blood
Uses a well-known melody with a strong 4-4 pulse throughout. It begins with a strong unison introduction and continues in mostly homophonic texture with brief countermelodies. This will have a full sound with small instrumentation as it modulates from F to Eb.

I Have Decided To Follow Jesus
Intended for students with one or more years of playing experience, this arrangement features a very interesting but not difficult countermelody for low instruments, and will sound full even with a minimum of players. The main theme is featured twice, first in concert Bb with the melody in treble parts, and then in concert Eb with melody in lower instruments, along with a creative obbligato for upper instruments. The harmonies include an occasional chromatic treatment setting it apart from many traditional young band arrangements. Rhythm includes half, quarter and occasional eighth notes.

Faith Of Our Fathers
The selection opens with a declamatory fanfare. Following, the theme is presented in solo clarinet and later joined with a flute obligato. The lower wind parts present the theme with fanfare flourishes followed by woodwind counterlines. Block chords give a feeling of strength and conclusion and then ends with the fanfare that it began.

Children’s Hymn (Jesus Loves Me)
Children’s Hymn begins with all metallic percussion sounds (Sus. Cym., Trgl., & Bells) and flutes. Other sections of the band are gradually added until all instruments are playing. The melody is passed around to various instruments and the chorus is played tutti. The work ends the way it began with all metallic percussion and flutes.

Take Time To Be Holy
The piece begins in a subdued fashion (in F). The theme is then presented by upper woodwinds while supported by contrasting brass accompaniments. The middle section is an episode based on the texture of the opening theme. The form is an overall ABA with a reflective coda.
