An accompanied sax trio (A-A-A/T) opening with an exciting motive. The first rendition is in block harmonies with occasional rhythmic punctuations. The next section has subtle contrapuntal statements amongst all parts giving a joyous texture. After a modulation the ensemble alternates between solo statements and full ensemble giving contrasts in texture and color. Another modulation ensues where imitative motives take place through the voices only to come together in a solid fashion for an exciting ending.

Hark The Herald Angels Sing
An accompanied saxophone trio for altos and optional tenor. The piece begins in a lively fashion starting quietly and adding more parts as it crescendos up to the opening of the tune in full ensemble scoring. The chorus passes active melodic portions amongst the parts until it flairs up to a triumphal statement. After a modulation the theme is passed around in a hocket-like fashion and then explodes into a block set of harmonies adding more and more rhythmic movement. The concluding section uses multiple dynamic and rhythmic shifts to cause contrasts up to a resounding conclusion

This is a hymn that is typically portrayed in a stately and somewhat more reserved fashion, but this arrangement exudes a sense of joy. The theme alternates back and forth between solid ensemble harmonic structures to other times of imitation and motivic snatches. Again, the whole flavor of the piece is one of exuberance – as to the thought of the text itself.

This bright arrangement of the hymn tune has proved to be very accessible and popular as a first quartet. There is a four page score and an individual part for each player.
The arrangement is in a traditional ABA form with a bright A section contrasted by a lilting B ection with almost a feel of one beat per measure. The arrangement returns to the bright A section which builds to the climatic ending. -

Delightful! Delightful! Delightful! The style of this work just makes it a continual joy! The whole first section features the lead sax with chromatic underpinnings. The interlude features the tenor line at a slower pace and then the whole thing erupts into the joyous feelings of the first section. It then catapults into a punctuated ending making a final statement.

How Long Has It Been
A trio that exudes a gentleness and tenderness from beginning to end. The melodic lines are mildly altered and the support harmonies and counterpoint move in a way that gives a sense of direction to the future. A very affective piece.

What A Friend
Scored for Saxophone quartet (A-A-T-B) with opt. Soprano for first Alto. The introduction starts with the First Alto playing a melodic motif, ever rising to a climatic point and then settling down to the theme- first presented in the First and Tenor parts weaving in and out producing a flowing texture, then joined by the Second Alto and eventually the Baritone. The chorus section of the hymn is a constant weaving of the four parts both harmonically and rhythmically. The next section becomes more active rhythmically adding tension until it settles down into a sweet aura of sound with gentle nudges of harmonic alteration. The final measures give an atmosphere of rest and solace.
