For full orchestra the piece begins with a straight forward introduction and then settles into a solemn mood. The theme is first presented in the horns and then joined with the upper woodwinds. A transition is carried by the brass and then modulates upward where the woodwinds and strings burst forth with a decorated version of the melody supported by the full orchestra. The chordal structure and rhythms become stronger until it concludes on a strong resolute chord.

The piano part carries an underlying drive that gives the feeling of a march. The flute part is a decorative addition with moments of “all Stars and Stripes.” A bright and celebrated work that will highlight any patriotic venue.

A dramatic introduction gives way to a legato first stanza, followed by a more dramatic second stanza. A short interlude leads to the final stanza, which starts slower and legatissimo and concludes powerfully and marcato in the original tempo.

A brass quintet that starts out with a solid statement that resembles a quiet strength The horn carries the tune while the other parts use a smooth underpinning of gentle motion. The second section modulates to a new key all the while using related thematic material for a transition. Then moving back to the original key the piece comes to a bold, solid conclusion.
